James Gurney says, "We can't know for sure hiw one person sees the world compared to another, even if both have normal color vision." color blindness affects about 10% of the population. I think that these two statements are important things to know about others, especially those who will see our work, but I agree with Gurney that our role as artists is to share the world how we see it with others so thy can see it for themselves. The visual brain processes tonal information separately from color information. - Tonal pathway of thought interprets the where - Color pathway interprets thee what. Specifically, Gurney says moonlight, but it applies to any type of lighting, "Since we cannot escape the prison of our own senses, paintings by artists are the best a=way for us to share our personal perception of moonlight [insert light source.]." Moonlight questions: If moonlight is a neutral or reddish colored light, and if it is so close to the minimal thresho...

Monochromatic Scenes: - Monochromatic color scheme is composed of any single hue taken through a range of value and chroma. - Monochromatic paintings have an antique feel. Warm and Cool: - Some so-called primitive languages have only two words to describe color. One for Warm colors and one for cool. This suggests that there is a psychological basis to the difference between warm and cool colors. - A single color can be warm next to a cooler color and cool next to a different warm color. Colored Light Interactions: - The light areas on a figure that has two different colored light sources mix to create different colors. - The Cast shadows of a light source when another colored light source is shining is the color of the other light source. Triadic Color schemes and Color Accent: - These two forms and systems of painting can emphasize specific parts of a painting. The artist can choose very specifically where they want to lead the eye and how to define the focus point. ...

Two quotes that I like from Robh's pages: 1. "A curious, less tense mind makes better choices and observations" 2. "You don't schedule art. . . you make space for it to happen."            I think that as a student the second quote is an interesting one. I usually have to schedule a time for my art and therefore I make a time for it to happen, but I don,t feel like I ever really make a space in my mind to allow art to happen. I often force it out because the deadline is looming  Here are some of the steps that Robh said he goes through. The above picture shows some of them.  1. Shape Design 2. Assigning color 3. Adding foreground 4. More Details 5. Modeling form 6. Erasing edges 7. Details and adjustments 8. Finding the Form in the clouds 9. etc. (you do this until it is done.) Color and Light: Sources of Light Direct Sunlight- Sun,blue sky, and reflected light. These all have an affect on the objects tha...
